Cantor Dan Adolphson prepares the towels for shipment. |
In the chaotic days following Hurricane Katrina, Community of Grace contacted Pastor Todd Williams of New Covenant Christian Church in Houston. When asked what we could do to help, Pastor Williams responded that they needed towels to give to the evacuees.
CoG Co-pastor Dennis Sanders contacted Lake Harriet Christian Church in Minneapolis which then passed it along to other Disciple
churches in the Twin Cities. The result was a generous donation of towels which were boxes up and sent to Houston. After the
towels arrived in Houston, Pastor Williams responded to Pastor Dennis saying:
Dear Dennis:
We can feel the love! The boxes arrived today, and immediately we began going to work! I loved all the notes on the
outside of the box. One person asked who I knew in Minnesota, or if I had ever met any of you. I said no, but when you are
in the family of God, you go beyond all of that.
Indeed. Community of Grace thanks all those who donated towels as well as those who spent the evening of September 7 packing
up the boxes. Finally, a special thank you goes to Pastor Terry Steeden and Church Administrator Karin Pettijohn for shipping
the boxes to Houston. Thanks be to God for your acts of charity.
Please continue to keep those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in your prayers.
Welcome, Bryan!
On July 10, the Church Council called Bryan Allen to be Co-Pastor along with Dennis Sanders. Bryan is a 2005 graduate
of United Seminary in New Brighton, Minnesota and was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ on July 31. Pastor Dennis Sanders went to the ordination at Bryan's home church, St. Mark's UCC outside of Tampa, Florida. We welcome Bryan to our community and wish him blessings as he starts his formal ministry.
